Default how much would it cost me...

i'm considering trading my 98 A4 (1.8tqms) in for a WRX, and i'm wondering how much it would cost me to just get my car up to or slightly beyond the performance levels of the rex. braking, handling, speed i guess are my main concerns. rough estimates? or should i just go for it and buy the wrx? (2003's are going for way cheap now)

If all that matters to you is speed, just buy the rex.

Default $1500 for K04 kit, $800 for decent suspension, $100 for brake pads

brakes on the WRX are nothing special, and neither is the handling. Basic shocks/springs will let you handle with 'em.

Default I use to think that way...

I too was contemplating on either getting a WRX or an A4. My final decision was the a4 and i do not regret it at all.

Default Well that's what I mean.

If all you want is a road rocket, get the WRX. It's not as comfortable, it's made of plastic, and it's not nearly as attractive. The AWD system is very poor, though it gets the job done.

Bottom line is, you can't get more bang for your buck with the WRX, but frankly I've never been comfortable in Subbies for any long period of time. It's a personal preference deal -- if you're looking for performance, get the WRX. If you're looking for a fun car, but also a daily driver, the Audi is better IMO.
