how reliable are audi A4 1.8t's, and what years are the most reliable?

The general concensus is that 1999.5 was the best year for the A4.
- Last year for non-DBW
- Updated interior / exterior
- Last year w/all-red dash lighting
As for reliability . . . with the 1.8T, you really can't go wrong. The engine is built like a tank.

Easy Killer . . . let's not toss out any false info.
I have a '99 (not '99.5 and have had really NO technical issues with my car). I'd say there were NO problematic model years for the 1.8T A4.

I think it depends on how you define 'general concensus'
I have a 2001. so, I got the updated interior, plus an additional 20hp. I test drove a 99.5 before buying my current car. for someone who isn't inclined to chip anytime soon, 150hp is way too underpowered for such a heavy car.
