I am doing my brakes on my 98 1.8TQ and I can't find the process in my Robert B Manual.
I have to replace the rear rotors due to they are bad.
It seems to have a large allen nut in the center of the hub. Do I take it off??? What size is it ???
Thanks
Rob

be able to get it out by hand anyway..
The rotors just sit on the hub.

allow you to take off the pads, but the caliper bracket will still be in place, and you will not be able to angle the rotor out of there.
You need a 5.5 or 6 allen (I can't remember, but you buy them in a set anyway) to remove those two caliper bolts as shown here in the picture. Once caliper is out, rotor will fall off just like taking off the 2 17mm caliper bolts for the front ones.

he said that he removed the caliper AND the mount, which is what you show being unbolted. He was referring to the allen bolt in the center of the hub, I guess he thought that it held the rotor to the hub.
Obviously you have to remove the caliper and the carrier before you can remove the rotor.

if you have the caliper and arbor off, just hit the rotor,it's rusted on.don't remove th 17mm allen in the center.you will destroy the wheel bearing

persuasion to get free from the hub.
Incidentally, VWs use a set screw to keep the rotor on the hub. While nice in that it keeps the lug holes lined up when you take off a tire, it becomes a major PITA when it comes time to replace the rotors.
