I recently had a front end accident which resulted in a new front bumper and hood. I'll be getting the car back tomorrow and am wondering if I should put off waxing immdiately to allow the paint to harden. The painting literally finished yesterday. Would this weekend be too soon? SOme BMW owners have told me that you should allow 6 months for new paint to harden. Any thoughts?

I would go over VWVortex and on the Detailing Forum pose the question to "Ron L" he is the area rep for a major automotive paint company and he is very useful with questions like yours.

I was told not to wash the car for 1 week so you don't mess it up that way. After that keep it clean to prevent contamination and discoloring from the dirt. Wax can be applied after about 3 or 4 months.

Unfortunately, I too just had a good chunk of my car repainted (trunklid, rear bumper) and I was told no waxing for 90 days, and no wax based wash (?) either. Sigh...this weekend was going to be my 6 month McGuires 3 step too...
