How to tell if a car is Quattro (and working properly)
I have a 99.5 quattro that I thought was fine in the snow. The rear would slip a little but I thought it was due to the tires. I recently got into another A4Q and it didn't slip as much. So my paranoid brain started thinking I might not have Quattro. Any way to find out?

should say "quattro" on the trim strip below the glove box.
or you could peak under the car and look for a rear differential bell housing.
and it should say quattro on the rear trunk lid.
and it should say quattro on the front grille.
and if you can fill the gas tank beyond 14gal you dont have quattro.

Look on your dashboard...
Is there a little badge on the beltline trim that says "quattro"?
If you insist on doing it the hard way, stick your head under the rear bumper. If you see driveshafts going to the rear wheels, you've got quattro.
Since you're talking about two different cars, odds are the different tires on the cars made a difference in the handling, and that's what you're noticing.
