Default How wide?

How wide of a tire can you go on a stock 1.8T A4? I will be changing rims, but want to know where the cutoff will be as far as rubbing when turned fully.

I'll make the rim decision when I know how wide. It'll be no more than 2" lower. Thanks.

the rim width and offset will determine what tire you can run.

Yeah I know. I don't want to be so wide I have to have an offset that makes the tire stick out. I'd luck to just know the max treadwidth that it can accomodate without rubbing at full turn. I'll adjust the aspect ratio and rim size accordingly. Thanks.

Default maybe I'm being too subtle

you don't pick a tire size before settling on a wheel. Typically plus sizing these cars isn't rocket science...17x8 and 18x8 are ideal, with 35et preferred offset. 225/40/18 tire maintains closest-possible rolling diameter to stock.

I worked for Goodyear for six years. I know what sizes I can fit given the OE diameter, what I'm wondering is is how much clearance I have, i.e., the limit on width. I can get 285's that are the same overall diameter as the OE's but I bet they'll rub when I turn.

Default congratulations.

I don't care who you work(ed) for. Overall clearance doesn't mean **** if you run the wrong wheel offset. 17x8 or 18x8, 35et, 225/40/18.

Default Bundle of info

I am well aware of offset, diameter, aspect ratio, etc..... I am asking the widest treadwidth anyone has run, and what rim you had to use to accomodate it -- without interference.

245 or 255 are possible with modding fenders ect -- I ran 235 with no modification- had no problems
