My former girlfriend was a little jealous of my car. But the above reply worked everytime. Just make sure it's nothing too outrageous like "...we can go to Europe."

It wasn't with my Audi. The first was with my 1979 FIAT X1/9 (so you could understand my concern) and the second was with my 1995 Honda Civic Si.

First, as ever the gentleman, I attempted to open and close the car door for them, but they had been corrupted by single white girl feminist lies - to allow a man to do something for you, like opening a door or pulling out a chair, was a sign of weakness.

Then, I tried asking them not to slam the door. They confessed that they didn't understand what I was talking about. Patiently, I had them stand in front of the car to show them how the entire car rocked. I put them in the car to 'feel' the rush of air, to have their ears pop. I pointed out how the unframed windows shook. I showed them how light and 'flimsy' the doors were.

They told me I didn't know what I was talking about.

I broke up with them, both. I mean if they won't even TRY to respect my request to exercise a little care in something as trivial as closing a car door, what would they say when a serious situation came along?

Advice? Ask her not to slam the door. Don't get mad if you have to remind her now and then, she may have always slammed car doors, so it will take some time to unlearn that behavior.

If she refuses? Look for another girlfriend who respects you.
