Default The quattro system in the A4 uses a torque sensing (TorSen) center diferential, which is fully...

mechanical. It can never go fully locked, but at the same time, it NEVER is fully open either. If there is the slightest difference in torque between the front and rear axles, it begins to transfer torque across itself to power the other axle.

The MB uses clutch packs to send power to the front axles.

Subarus use a clutch pack setup on AUTOMATIC transmission cars(which is FULLY electronic, you can pull a fuse, and have NO all wheel drive), and a gear/clutch setup on manual transmission cars.

Default Hard to say. I generally prefer the Audi system over all...

The Audi NEVER biases towards the rear, always towards the front. The most you will get is 50/50 torque distribution. It can vary a little (10 to 20%), but pretty much, it's evenly split front to rear. It's not like the Benz, wich is fully RWD till the front kicks in..

Default I thought audi (torsen) was 50/50 torque split and can vary up to

70/30 or 30/70, atleast thats how torsen says it works, it dosent only bias toards the front, it dosent realy know front from rear it juss goes to where the traction is. gotta love that "torsen growl" when its splittin that torque. the TT uses the wet clutch haldex system, same as volvo, and its basicaly front wheel drive, but when the front slips it can transfer up to 30% torque to the rear, its more FWD with rear assist than AWD.

Default We have the a4 quattro and the outback awd

I think the subaru handles slightly better in the snow, but it could be due to the cars larger frame. What I find odd is that the subaru is much faster than the audi, even though the engines are basically rated the same, most likely it's from more low end torque.
It's also a little bit more solid on the highway as well.
They both are excellent cars

Default Right, it can vary up to around 20% like I said...

It's biased toward the front though, because that's usually where most of the traction is.

Default Which Audi do you have? what year OB? My brother has a '99 outback ....

the thing is a total junk. He hates it, I hate it.. its WAY slower than my 2.8 A6, handles like a truck, is made of tin foil, sounds like it's misfiring even though it's not....

The only reason it might be faster than a stock 1.8t is because it's lighter.

Default 2000 outback limited, 99 audi a4 quattro - stock suspension

The limited has additional suspension (poly bushings, swaybar, etc)
Both are just awesome cars.
The outback is a silent car, even at 100 on the highway.
The only complaint I've ever had is that the first moonroof in the car doesn't actually open all the way, it just pops up slightly.
