Default You are incorrect sir

to paraphrase Mr. McMahon. It's all based on inventory. Last time I was there last year, they had a TON of cars and did me a lease deal on the spot that beat the one I bashed out of Keyes Audi for 3 hours. They are good people.

Try Chris P. or Simon.

Default That's funny, I've been tempted to do the reverse several times!

When the salesperson was a moron and I ended up buying somewhere else, I wanted to call and said Nyah nyah. But I was a little too mature for that, unlike this idiot.

In a market like LA with this many Audi dealers, I'd recommend that you use a service like Carsdirect. Instead of searching for the car you want and then haggling, why not let them find it and offer you a price? If nothing else, you can use their price as a negotiating tool at the dealer. Plus their payment calculator quickly shows you what kind of payments you are looking at.

Default I had the pleasure of doing the opposite one time...

I came in and said "I am going to buy a car today" to whet their appetite. Offered $x on an '89 Saab 900 (fair price); salesman said can't do it, we'd lose money (b.s.). I said I wanted to speak w/ sales manager, who would know that was a fair price. Salesman said "no." I walked.

Went to another local dealer, bought the car I wanted for my price with a minor negotiation.

Next day, the sales mgr. of dealer #1 called me at my office to discuss the deal. I told him, with glee "You don't understand: I told your salesman that I was buying a car yesterday. And I bought a car yesterday from [your competitor], at the same price I offered you. Sorry, you're too little, too late..." He was speechless.

I really enjoyed that.

Default This reminds me of the day when my wife and I went to a Lexus dealer . . . . . .

We were both dressed like bums … well, very casual. We had already visited every Japanese-car dealer in town and were amazed that no Japanese sedan is really roomy enough for extra tall people.

I walked into the showroom and in my usual humorous way, simply said "TALL CAR WITH STICK?" Admittedly not a very complete sentence, but to the point. Based on that and looking at our appearance, the salesman ASSUMED that we were white trash. He proceeded to take us to the back lot and wanted to show us a bunch of WELL PRICED USED cars.

An hour later at an Audi dealer, I bought a new A4 -- cash purchase. My wife suggested that we drive the new A4 back to the Lexus dealer, show the presumptuous salesman the cash receipt and watch his reaction. I replied that there was no need to press the attack and we just drove home … the scenic route of course.

Default How I got mine @ 5% over

Which is a little over $1200. I contacted a dealer and they went from 10% to 8%, but no less, they'd be losing $$$, HA! Told her "No way!"

I mentioned the kinda deals that Audiworld Forum folks got, which were 3-8%, most about 5%. I said if my comrades across the nation can get these deals... then so can I. Plus I'm a son of a bitch to negotiate with, you can have my business or the next guy can, your choice. She baulked, too greedy! TOO BAD!

So I contacted another dealer, their competition, and told the specialist that I was buying the car... here is what I want.... here is what I think is a fair price. "Can you do this deal?", he said he wasn't sure and would have to get back with me. I added I was a serious buyer and to respect my "No BS" way of doing things. You do the deal... I buy...simple. 20 minutes later I get a call, "We can do it!". Car is at factory, need deposit. 30 minutes later I was at the dealership giving them $500 deposit. Now, just waiting for the car to reach dealer.

The deals are out there and you can use that as a negotiating tool. Also, Carorder and the rest are really competition to a dealer's bottom line. You can get a great deal through these services, with moderate negotiations.

Also, the way I look at it... the second rep could see I wanted this car. I was sold, he did not have to sell me. Just order and deliver the car, and make some money from the deal, simple. Maybe not as much $$ as other deals, but SOME is better than NONE. If he was too greedy I would have looked elsewhere, and I told him that.

My suggestion is research what is a fair price, or profit for the dealer. I thought $1200 was fair. They have to make some $$. Go in when you know you are serious to buy and DEAL. Don't budge, don't get emotional, just tell them what you want and someone will want your business. You might have to walk out on a few, but so what. Don't let this wonderful car cloud your judgement. Set a limit and stick to your guns. Maybe read up on the ART of negotiating.

Good luck

Default Call the dealer back when...

...you buy your A4 for below the sticker price. Tell them about how much better service you got at the other dealer and how you plan to do all of your maintenance and service at the OTHER dealer. Tell the salesperson you plan to tell everyone you know about their rude phone call and how you plan on recommending your friends to the OTHER dealership :-)

Good luck on you search!<p>Wayne H.
