Default hydroplaning

Last week was my spring break, and I drove from Atlanta to Miami. At one point (on Alligator Alley) there was a pretty heavy downpour. A few times I felt the tail of my car swinging around, so I slowed down to around 65, at which point the tail was swaying back and forth pretty badly..I thought I was going to lose control, but luckily didn't. Same thing happened again on the way back to Atlanta.

I feel like maybe my car is more prone to hydroplaning than others I've driven in rain, but I'm not sure why. I have conti sports which have plenty of tread. Any thoughts?

Default You slowed down to 65? Good for you and us!

Hydroplaning can occur even at 50mph. The wider your tires, the sooner your car will start floating. Once you start floating you're in deep ****.

When I got pulled, I was going 86 in the rain and the traction felt fine. Then again, I wasn't going 86 for that long before I had to slow down substantially.

Default Well, you know, it's not about how fast you can, but how fast you can slow down

If you go so fast on a wet road that you are losing grip, what do you think will happen if you have to brake all of a sudden?
Ask yourself if you will be able to slow down in time. If the answer is "no", then slow down, because you are going too fast.

at 65 mph and above, pretty much all tires begin to hydroplane.

Default it's all in the tires...

Wider ='s more likely to do it. I've allways gone for max wet performance. No problem's with the dunlop sp9000's or the so3's.
