I have a Bose question

I have a Bose question
My dealer screwed me with a "free" CD-changer in my '98 A4 2.8. (in otherwords, he never installed it and doesn't remember saying it would be free). Therefore, I am wondering if I should install a changer in the trunk, or try replacing Bose head unit in the front with a cd-player instead. I don't want to risk losing the integrity of the Bose. I am also not sure if I '99 or a '98.5.
Thanks for your help.

Replacing Bose with aftermarket HU is a risky propostion...
Most stereo shops don't have much experience with Audi's, and it's even harder to find one that is comfortable working on the Bose HU. The trouble is the speakers and the amps built in to them -- the scoshe VW-01B aftermarket wiring harness for the non-Bose HU WILL NOT WORK WITH THE BOSE HU. I don't know what it may damage if you try it, but I know it won't work.
Try doing a search for Bose and aftermarket HU. I know people have done the upgrade, but it involved buying a somewhat hard-to-find wiring harness. I upgraded my non-Bose HU and have never looked back.

Re: Why dont you...
get a cd-changer or just add another head unit in the glove compartment.
I would get the cd-changer with mp3 capability. That's what I will do, if I dont go aftermarket.
