is that normal? it sounds like the brakes are lightly being applied, even when i'm totally off of them. is there such a thing as the distance between the pads and rotor being too small?

How much pad do you have left? Does the grinding noise get louder when you brake?

Default I have around 50% left, i think, but (more)

i've been reading the archives a bit, and I definitely have brake chirp (when you hit a bump, and you're not applying the brakes) AND when applying light braking pressure, i hear constant squeaking, like running your nails along the chalkboard.

I'm going to the dealer tomorrow. Are the 2 problems the same thing? i found the TSB on brakes, would that fix both problems?

Thanks.<ul><li><a href="http://www.20vturbo.com/tsb/mirror/audipdf/a460001.pdf">TSB</a></li></ul>

Default One possibility

The shield behind the rotor has been bent, and is rubbing on the rotor. It's a hideous sound, and is a 2 minute fix.

Default Similar one

On old Coupe Quattro, I had a rock thrown up into the brakes and lodge between the rotor and brake shield. Similar hideous sound that varied with car speed.

So, turn off the computer, remove a wheel, and do some careful investigation. By rotating the hub by hand you ought to be able to pinpoint the location.
