I had recently been getting a "groaning" sound when turning the wheel. Questions:
#1) What damage could I have caused? (parts..)
#2) Shouldn't this have registered the OBD2 and given me a light indicating this way before?
#3) what fluid should I buy now to replace (heard it has to be specific P/S fluid) ?
thanks

you may have ruined the pump and/or steering rack. Overheating occurs easily with low fluid level. P/S fluid is not monitored, it's considered maintenance-free. Therefore it's important to keep an eye on it, just like it is with your engine oil.
You have to get the correct P/S fluid from the dealer, and hope you didn't damage anything.
