A4 Radio Display flashes briefly/intermittenly
From Jeff on the alt.autos.audi newsgroup.
Has anyone run into this before scenerio before?
Intermittently, I have noticed that the radio display and light up
*****(night-time) will flash off and then back on for a split second.
It hasn't seemed to effected the radio actually playing, it is just a
little annoying to see it happen out of the corner of my eye. I
haven't been able to just sit there and see it happen, it happens so
randomly.
I usually play radio stations, so I haven't noticed it occuring with
CDs.
Last night, I noticed it happened when I was playing a CD. The song
that was playing, stopped for a split second when the display flashed.
Then it started playing again from the beginning of that song.
I image that when I take it to the dealer, they will just look at it
and say "everything seems to be fine". At first I thought I was
crazy, but I know it's happened a few times.
This is an Audi A4 1.8T 2001 Quattro.

Alright, I just thought I was loony, but I've seen that too. I've
never had the CD stop or anything, but I've seen it flash. Thank
goodness it isn't just me going insane. Now where did I put my
lithium??
I've also noticed that sometimes when I'm changing radio stations, the
top section of the drivers display goes blank. It comes back when I
hit another channel button, so it really ins't that big of a deal.
Kinda quirky though.
While I'm at it, has anyone's environmental controls locked up? IOW,
you can't put it back into auto mode?

My 2001 Allroad Bose radio does the same thing. I did mention it to the
dealer several times but they were never able to observe it. They did agree
to replace the radio anyway. Unfortunately, the new radio seems to do the
same thing except not as frequently.

All Symphony Radios Do It..
Audi won't admit it, but the Symphony radios have been having trouble since they came out in 1999. They have various problems including, the stations changing, cd skipping, display outtages, setting changes. If you go to the deaker, most of them will say it can't be seen, or duplicated. But if you can duplicate it, they will order it, but only after getting some crucial info about the radio. They send it in to Audi and then you call the 1-800 number and tehn they will assign you a 10 digit id number to track it. After the dealer gets it, they will call you. Voila, problem solved.
