Default I know that I am going to get flamed for this post, but....

I need to raise an issue that bothers me about this forum all the time. Please consider what I am saying as constructive criticism. I have noticed that a copious amount of people on this forum find it necessary to constantly bash people who modify japanese cars. They are constantly being referred to as "ricers" and their cars being "riced out." To me, that is bull****. Just because some people can't afford to own an Audi A4/S4, doesn't mean that they are subject to prejudice. It is also quite immature that the people who engage in this behavior find it necessary to connotate rice with the people who have these cars, as if all of them are rice eating asian people. There is a wide diversity of individuals that drive Japanese cars, so the rice stereotype does not really apply. These so called "ricers' are just like us- people who like cars, and like doing things to their cars. They share the same enthusiasm about modifying their cars, and driving them. It really bothers me that many people on this board (not all of you) are constantly talking trash, or acting presumptous toward other people in the import scene. I have many friends, who unlike me, cannot afford to own an Audi, but have Acura Integra's and Honda's, etc. My best friend just bought a new Subaru WRX, and he loves it. It may not be as classy as an A4, but it is a damn nice car for someone who is 20 years old, working full time, and paying tuition by himself at the University of Washington, and living on his own-completely financially independent from his parents. I am happy that he loves his car, and owns it. He and I have many conversations about the modifications we are doing, or planning to do with our cars. He is just like me, but does that mean that he is a "ricer"?? What the hell does "ricer" mean anyway?? To me it almost like racism.

I am not implying that any of the people on this board are racists, however, I think that those of you who are quick to call people "ricers", or whatever label you are giving to these non-Audi owners, should think twice about what you are saying. And as far as the cars go, I don't understand why you guys can't appreciate 800 WHP Supra's and Skyline's that would open a can of wooop *** on any Audi that has ever existed. Or the Subaru Impreza Rally cars that have won so many times, and the Misubishi Lancers. Is an Acura Integra that runs 10 second quarter miles a piece of ****??? No, that is a damn fast car that someone has put a hell of a lot of investment into. They probably take a great deal of pride in their cars, and love what has come of them. You don't see them sitting around saying, haha look at those dumb asses who bought their Audi's- those cars will never be as fast as ours. So, just because some of these Japanese cars dont have digital climate control, or a 3rd sun visor, and the best AWD system in the world, and Alcantara suede leather, doesnt mean that they are not worthy of appreciation in their respects.

As far as some of the things people do to their cars, that is their problem. We can all sit behind the wheels of our Audi's and make fun of the guy who put a 5" folgers coffee can exhaust on his honda, and a spoiler that would be too large for the Mercedes CLK GTR Le Mans car. That is just bad taste, if you ask me. Their are also people who drive Audi's that have bad taste too. I have seen plenty of A4/S4s that have the ugliest body kits and the most horrid wheels I have ever seen. I saw someone driving a 2000 Audi S4 the other day, who had put 16" wheels on their car. This makes me sick.

I know that I am going to get severely flamed for saying this, and I dont really care. I am telling how it is. It is very close minded, and judgemetal to bash people who have different things than you, especially people who can't afford to have the cars that we do. I am sure that if we all had the money, everyone here would be driving around in Ferrari's. So, think about what you are saying when you call someone a "ricer", or call something "riced out."

In closing, I would like to add, for the record that I am a white male, who drives an Audi A4. I love my car, but I also have respect for many other cars on the market. Thank you for hearing my opinion.

Default Japanese cars...

...and what most people call "ricers" are completely different. "Rice" refers to ridiculous modifications that add more humor than style or performance...

Default Not too many people would call an 800 hp Japanese car rice..

Rice tends to refer to the honda civics that have MaD mOdZ yO! (read: cut springs, big shiny wheels, and big bumble bee exhaust)
It just isn't my taste..And there are no riced out German cars..Because they are Krauters..I have used that term before...
Both terms refer to show before go. But funny thing is...most of them don't show us their good side..They have unpainted body kits... peeling window tint with many bubbles..etc..
I understand that not all people have the $$ that the people on this board do..
But taste and class do not cost anything. The lack of those two in the modification (if you even call what they do modifying) of cars is Rice, Kraut, or whatever ya call those cavaliers)

Default You mean like this

Seriously though. I agree...This term 'Rice' is not dependent on the type of car or person driving it. It is some of the tasteless stupid mods people do to their car. And who said we dont' respect 10 second intergras and Supras?

Slim -

I agree with you regarding all of your concerns. However, I feel that perhaps you are mislead in your reading of some of these posts. While a few people may be acting in a prejudiced manner, most of use use the following criteria.

First, the term "ricer" actually does not come from the people who drive the car, but from the make of the car itself (Japanese cars). For years, Japanese motorcycles have been referred to as "Rice-Rockets" without a single complaint; this comes from the same thinking.

Secondly, it CERTAINLY has nothing to do with economic class. The term "rice" refers only to one specific idea -- the idea of modifying one's car to "look fast" without any real concern for performance, or, more importantly, the safety of the passengers or nearby cars. An excellent example is when one cuts their springs. The car is now lower, but with the wrong spring tension. The result is a vehicle that is dangerous to drive, and dangerous to those around. And for what? So that he or she could look like they were "fast."

While the above is certainly not PC, it is also not intended as racist, nor predjudice. Rather, it is the expression of one's opinion that certain things you do to a car are inappropriate, just as others have expressed to me that modifying my car in anyway is stupid (I should just leave it stock). They might call me a child or worse, but it doesn't mean they think children suck -- it's just their way of saying they don't agree with my choices.

All the best,
Josh

Japanese bikes have been called "Rice Rockets" for years. Same idea. (see above)
