Default I know this isn't the Audio Forum...but I have a question about how many subs to buy:

here's what I'm thinking...

--2 JL 10w0 subs (with a 300 watt RMS amp)

--1 JL 12w3 sub (same amp)

--2 Alpine 12 inch Type S subs with about 500 watts running them (VERY pricey).

I want a lot of bass, but not an overkill. I think the 2 Alpine 12's would be RIDICULOUSLY loud. Do you think that one JL 12w3 would pump a lot of bass, or what?!?! thanks.

Default 1 JL 12w3 in a ported box if you want loud... other wise a nice sealed box...

or get one 18w3 ;-)

Default Currently I have a single 10 and it hits pretty hard...

I listen to a lot of techno, euro electronica, industrial, and metal- so I too like heavy bass. I'm eventually switching to a single 12. The 10 has a little trouble hitting the ULTRA low frequencies at high volume, but RARELY do I come across a track that causes it to complain. I'm building a custom enclosure for the 12. I just need to decide on a happy medium that yields tight bass and yet hits low.

Default I had 1 JL 12W3 and I didn't think it was loud enough.

I replaced it with an infinity perfect 12, and it sounds much louder/better tighter. You can get perfect 12's on Ebay for $199. I give it 400w RMS, but I know it could take much more. I'd reccommend that woofer over any of the ones your interested in. Also, I have mine firing thru the ski sack. With the rear armrest down, the bass hits REALLY hard. Especially if all the windows are up. My brother was like "make it stop"...."my head is throbbing". I don't really get those symptoms, but I grew up rollin around with subs in the back.(now I have one of my own...much better)
