i learned quickly that playin' with the striker latches is a no-no...

i can hear wind up in the back upper corner of the drivers door. if i reach back and pull tight it goes away. soooo, i searched for the proper torx key to adjust the striker plate. geezus, don't try it. it doesn't work and it's VERY hard to restore back to its original position.

yeah, that's not where you wanted to start working...
You need to remove the door panel, and loosen the bottom two torx bolts (T45) that hold the upper door frame in place. Then loosen the top two just enough that you can nudge the top of the door frame in a little, tighten everything back up, and retest it. Leave the striker plate alone!

thanks SO much RKA. i didn't know you could adjust it there too, but i'll be very careful. i take it you've done/seen that before? all i know is i started to get sick when none of the seams were matching up anymore. yikes! heheh, it certainly isn't like adjusting my 'ol ford ranger latch.
BTW...sweet ride (those are 17 or 18's)?

The fix has been well documented here on AW...in fact, I suggested my dealer do it this way, rather than replace the door seals (knowing full well replacing the seals wasn't going to do a damn thing).
Yeah, there are a lot of things that aren't like your Ford Ranger. :-)
Thanks for the compliment...those are 17" A4 wheels as a matter of fact!

someone else out there with "smaller" rims. hehe!
i'm not laughing, though, my "big" step was from 15's to 16's (anything bigger here'll get wrecked).
originally i wanted a black a4, but the only black thing that was remotely close was the '00 jetta we picked up shortly after. when both are cleaned up, i still like the black jetta better
i DO miss my 'lil ranger, tho. damn fine truck.
i'll do a search for your wind leak and hopefully get at that this weekend if it ever warms up here. it's always good to have time aside rather than rushin'.
holy ****, it's already down to -30f tonight!!
if you live somewhere warm, please lie to me that it's colder where you are
