i messed up my car
a while back, i rubbed the side of my car against my garage, so there's a little white streak (a layer of paint from the garage) over the back driver side wheel. can i use goo gone or something to take this off? if not, then what can i do to get rid of this hideousness? thanks.

use some kind of compound and then wax
or try cleaning it, wet sanding, then waxing... sometimes with deeper scratches you have to wetsand but make sure you have some kind of experience with paintwork or you'll **** **** up.

Re: use some kind of compound and then wax
its not deep at all, i think the paint from the garage in on top of the car paint, but i don't know how to take it off. and no i don't have any experience with wet sanding

I'd try the Goo Gone before using heavy artillery...
I'd try Goo Gone or 91% rubbing alchol. Make sure the Goo Gone is completely wiped off. If there is minor residue I'd claybar it. Then wax.

From my experience Goo Gone will remove your car's paint too.
If it's not too bad then WD-40 should do the trick. But if it's pretty bad then you will need to use a claybar, or a bug/tar remover designed not to damage automotive paint.

Go to Pep Boys, and pick up some 3M Imperial Hand Glaze.
Wash and dry the area, then go over it with the IHG. It may take several repeated applications with a buff in between each application to remove the paint.
If that doesn't work, do a search on the detailing forum for "claybar". If used properly, that will probably remove the excess paint.
Both products can be used in your day to day detailing routine, so your money won't go down the drain.
When you're done, coat it with your favorite wax.
