I need new MAF but my intake was modified by PO

Like i said, it was modified by previous owner... I took the MAF off and saw the part number, went to autoparts.com matched the part number to '74-10077 1999 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA' should I buy this one again? I guess its a 3" opening. Is there something equivalent/better? Not sure what he was going for when he modified it.

goes from opening at turbo to a 3" MAF fitting. I looked the PN up and its off a ~99 Jetta. Thats just what I found. I dont have PN on me. MAF's throwing codes and caused failed ems. He just wants to know if there is a better option than what he had. Another, maybe cheaper, 3" MAF. I dont think there is.
I also think the intake has a k&n filter on it. Maybe thats why it failed.
