I looked at the new BMW ix again just for kicks and every time I do, I leave knowing the A4 is a better car. Fit and finish with my Audi is noticeably better.
I found a lot of minor finishing errors on the BMW that are not pressent on my new A4. These are minor problems but as they say, " perfection is in the details". I will say the 330 is a bit faster but not worth the trade off of the A4 quattro's superior handling. I found that judging a car only on its ability of "how fast it goes" is a one sighted ignorance that I'll leave to the Mustang /Camarro crowd. The ride of the A4 feels tighter than the 330. The controls and switches of the 330 doesn't feel as solid or as over engineered as the A4. So I guess I'm trying to say is that the BMW doesn't have the elegant engineering quality the A4 has. To compare the ix to the quattro system would be emdarrassing. BMW could'nt pull off the ix in the mid 80's, the quattro is in a different league, and drives rings around the BMW. As far as I am concerned, the A4 is under priced. (but I'm not bitchin about it)

I was amazed that the 325ix was $40k and mine had more options and way better build quality. The interior trim was horrible for a car of that price range and the back seat room is worse than the A4

which is not available on the 1.8T and 17" rim. While it is true the 2001.5 have 17", but it being slightly cheaper than the 2001 1.8T, the same $5k more, I believe you get more on the 325ix. Not to mention a V6 also.
While we like to make fun of the Bimmer drivers having spent so much more than us, but the extra money they spent does get them more feature than us. Some that I can think of.
1. Leather memory seats (power of course)
2. V6 engine
3. DRL
4. Steering wheel mounted radio and cruise control
5. Remote trunk opener (not sure about this)
6. Rain sensing wiper
7. 17" rims
Etc.
