idle control valve

My mechanic is pretty sure that my car's stalling is due to my idle control valve. Anyone else have this problem? I read somewhere that you can clean the valve. Is that true or do I need a new one? Parts and labor is $300 which is pretty reasonable considering Audi wanted $530.

I pulled the intake hose and cleaned the t/b really well with carb cleaner. Didn't help. Turned out it was the chip program...
Anyway, good luck with yours.

ardest part is getting it of and on. Check the tech section or doa search. Someone had a method that seemed easier. ie..specific things to disconnect to get it off and on without having to torque at it.

Well i cleaned the ICV yesterday. Didn't drive that much but so far no stalling. I used brake cleaner instead of carb cleaner bc a friend said it would leave less residue and i lubed it up with white lithium grease. The part is hard to clean because most of the mechanism is internal. The rpm's still fluctuate but very little. Hopefully it worked.
