if the abs module is disconnected, will the brakes still work??

they should since they're mechanical. just like they work if the car dies and there's no power

Default do mean the actual module or the fuse?

because you can pull the fuse (number 7 if I recall) and that will disable the ABS. Keep in mind though that disabling the ABS will also disable the EDL (electronic differential lock).
