if i take out the wood trim out of of the dashboard on around the radio is it still black

if i take out the wood trim out of of the dashboard on around the radio is it still black
plastic underneath. or do i have to buy a trim for it. i am changing my wood trim and don't want to buy an aluminum trim. and i also don't want to leave the wood trim .. it would look corny with all aluminum and a piece of wood.
