I'm planning on buying the timing belt and tensioner kit for my 97 A4 1.8T. I know someone who works at a VW dealership and he said that he can get me Audi parts at a discount. But, wouldn't this kit be the same for the Passat? I recall that someone bought a Passat gas cap and it was considerably cheaper. Would this be the same case? If so, are the part #'s the same? Or am I totally wrong about the Passat sharing parts? I wonder what other parts are shared between the Passat and A4.

You might want to consider the revised timing belt tensioner.

Ask your friend at the dealership. He should be able to look up both part#s. The ETKA CD he has have both VW and Audi parts.

Also search the archives for the part# for the revised belt tensioner. You could also email clair parts to get it, don't make it sound like you're only asking for the part# tho cuz you might not get a reply =)
