Default Ignition Problems on 96 A4 2.8

I started to experience problems with my Climate control system. The display was flickering. Along with the flicker came a snaping sound... Similar to the sound created when you shock yourself. It actually shocked me on my ear while I was driving. It must have come from the B-pillar. The snapping noise is coming from under the dash on the drivers side. Finally the snaping and the flickering stopped and I drove for about 2 hours with out incident, Stopping and starting the car just fine. The next time I go to turn the key to start the car i doesn't start. It just clicks... From under the dash... Not like the clicking when the starter is bad. In the incident I was able to start the car the next time I turned the key. After that I had no problem stopping the car and starting the car several times. Until the next day.... It wouldn't start at all... Wierd.... Same clicking from under the dash. I was destined to start the car so I sat there for about 2 hours turning the key over and over. The car started about 1 in 30 key turns but it was completly random.I started to notice that there was different clicking patterns just before the car started... Even more odd... On one occasion I just held the key in the start position for a little while and after about 10 seconds the car started. I'm wondering if this has to do with the recall on the ignition. Any help would be appreciated.

Default sounds like you have a relay going bad.:{(

if you have access to a vagcom see if any codes set. if not take off the drivers knee bolster and see if you can determine witch relay is clicking. i suspect the fuel pump relay. if you do find any codes set, fuelpump relay could show "injectors disconected" failure code.

Default That's what I was thinking... There are numerous relay's clicking....

But I have My eye on one of them... It's a longer White one. It's the one that's clicking rapidly... I even touched it once and the car started the very next time. How do I find out what the relay is for?
