I'm about to adjust my H&R Coilovers (going a little lower) - any tips before I start?

AFAIK...
you need to H&R tools that come with a Coilover set. It's kinda like 2 bolts that lock on eachother. In my case I just need to move the bottom one down a little and then "lock" the upper one onto that. I guess I'll find out soon if that works or not

clean off the threads with WD40 -- then put some white lithium grease on em.
oh, and don't let the jack down until the wheel
is back on the car.
8-)
another tip is to cut one of the supplied
H&R wrenches in half. easier to work with
on the rears.

You described it well. The two notched, black rings below the perch are the "bolts", as you called them. Loosen the bottom one, spin it down as far as you need to, then start wrenching the larger, top one down to meet it. Then wrench the bottom one "up" to lock them together.
