i was wondering if i can just have apr ship the chip to my house and do the install myself. apr told me that i have to send the ecu in to them, but i dont want to do that. can anyone tell me what my installation options are (simple unplug, replug, send in ecu, flash program, etc.) thanks in advance
Andrew M

Default info

Overnight your ecu to APR and they will overnight it back. Or, if you're planning to purchase a spare ecu, they will just send that. Whatever you do, APR is definitely a wise choice and well worth a couple of days of inconvenience.

Default Unplug, send, recieve, replug the ECU or

buy a separate already modified ECU and replace yours.
1.8TQMS '00

Default You have to send ECU to APR ....

Removal of the ECU is fairly simple and takes about 15 - 30 minutes using simple hand tools. APR has an instruction sheet for the A4 on their web site (www.goapr.com).

I recently added a chip without any problems. I overnighted the ECU to APR on Tuesday and got it back on Thursday.

Default According to APR one must unhook battery, Is it advisable to do so?

Won't the dealer find out about the fact that the battery was unplugged and give you a hard time about it?

TIA

Honestly your average dealer will not care about an unhooked battery, unless you come a cross a problem - for sure.

No need to unhook, it's just a saftey issue.

APR does not state you must unhook the battery; they did installed mine in a parking lot in 5 min.

Default Re: According to APR one must unhook battery, Is it advisable to do so?

I am running an APR chip in my car and I had to
unplug the battery and reinstall the ecu and then hook up everything again and leave the key on,not running, for about three minutes to set the throttle adaptation, you can hear it under the hood, then it takes a few miles for the ecu to adapt.
