I'm either an idiot, or a big idiot ... what's the diff. between a caliper and a carrier?

Default hmmm, roughly what mileage does it take for calipers to go bad, and what are ...

the symptoms of bad calipers?

Default usually they don't go bad

either sticking or leaking is a sign of failure. What makes you think you have a bad caliper?

Default generally bad calipers = stuck piston causing the pad to grind on the rotor regardless of

brake pedal position... or failure in a seal causing leakage.

Default environment dependent I'd think. uneven pad wear is one indication of a

possible bad caliper

Default Both. Under heavy braking, carriers are usually deformed.

What keeps them in check is the condition of the pads and rotors, and the caliper is a bit floating from the carrier. Stock carriers are typically soft material. You can observe them bending when you ask someone to push the brakes hard.

I had to bend carriers back into place for an old car once.
