Default yes you are correct

the 12v proves to be especially difficult to modify. If you are looking to do that, then buy a 1.8t.

Modding is not out of the question though. There are guys dedicated to squeezing out every bit of horsepower in the 12v forum, namely UrS4 (http://www.abnormallyaspirated.com).

Default difficult to do engine mods without spending a lot of money

My friend has one. I love his car. If you don't plan on doing engine mods then I would defintely get it. It seems to be bullet proof.

Default you clearly plan to mod, I'd skip the 12v as I fear you may be disappointed

1.8t is your best bet. Or atleast get a 98 2.8.
