Greeting fellow Audi worlders,
I had my oil changed at one of those quick change places and the mechanic told me that I was missing a bolt or two on my skid plate. I asked him how important it was and he said, given I live in Arizona which is so dry ( very little rain or snow ) that I could simply remove the plate and not bother with it because it only serves to protect from inclemant weather.
Is this true ????????? Could I remove it and it be completely safe ????
Thank you in advance.
Patrick

1. It's been proven to lower under hood temps
2. It keep the engine compartment cleaner
3. It probably helps aerodynamics
4. It's a factory item - does your mechanic have an engineering degree?

Well, it still could damage something, but having that belly pan will lessen the effect. Also, some have said that it affects underhood temps. and also can help to deaden engine noise. It's there for a reason IMO, so go get the few missing screws and have it put back on. Good luck

It does keep the engine bay clean, but it also helps to improve airflow in the engine bay. Removing that shield will cause a rise in underhood air temps. I would not recommend leaving it off. Get the appropriate screws and bolts, and secure it in place.
