Default INFO: Latch Retrofit Kit for B5 A4

So I called Aoa Customer Advocate.
Surprisingly, the person that handled my call was extremely informative. So I thought I'd share.

1)For all audis manufactured after 9/1/1999 except the A8L and TT, AOA will pay for parts and labor to install all LATCH components

a)Upper tether anchors (if not already installed).
b)Lower anchor brackets on the outer sides of the rear seats. NOTE: There is NOT an option (AOA or customer paid option) to install anchors in the center of the rear seat.

2)For select MY93-98 Audis , AOA will only install the upper tether achors.

Specially, B5 A4's prior to 9/1/1999 production will not have the option to install the lower anchors. The AOA customer advocate stated that this was due to concerns with compromising the frame's integrity for those model years.

Now, what I have read is that the B5 A4's already have these lower anchor holes in the frame....My guess is that the real reason is that prior to 9/1/1999 production date, these holes might not already exist, and AOA would need to drill in order to install them. If however, the holes already exist, I don't see why you couldn't pick up the retrofit kit and have it installed even if AOA doesn't pay for it. But that's just a guess.

The AOA advocate says there is a TSB out for LATCH retrofit. But he couldn't give me the TSB number (Company policy)....I'll try to dig it out, but if not I'll ask someone with TSB access..

Thanks for the info.

I called my dealership today and they will look into whether they can install this in my '97 A4. Fingers crossed...

I have a regular maintenance scheduled on Jan 9th, and if I don't hear back from him before then I should be fine. I'll keep you posted.
