Default Info Request: 60,000 Mile Service Items

For those that have had this work done at the dealer, or for those that have a Bentley manual....I'm looking for a list of the items that are replaced at the 60,000 mile service for a '97 1.8T. My Owner's Manual is kind of vague.

I know that this interval calls for the tune-up items so I'm figuring plugs & air filter (actually I have an ABT filter, so I won't need that). As far as plugs go...what's recommended? Bosch? Beru?

I also know the interior dust/pollen filter needs replacing.

I know I'm due for a timing belt & tensioner change also.

My brake fluid was just changed about 5 months ago, so that's good.

Fuel filter?

Serpentine belt (i.e., ribbed V-belt)? According to the Maintenance book that came with my Owner's Manual, this is to be replaced every 90,000 miles. Anyone see a reason to replace it early? I guess it can't hurt.

Coolant change?

Anything else?

So here's what I think my list of items to replace is:
- Spark plugs
- Interior dust/pollen filter
- Fuel filter
- Coolant change [possibly]
- Serpentine belt [possibly]
- Timing belt & tensioner [not part of 60k service, but should be done now or very soon]

Appreciate the help.

Default Fuel filter...wasn't somebody saying that change intervals for that were >100K?

I thought I remember somebody posting that this thing is a PITA. It's somewhere on top of the fuel tanks (which must be removed)...and Audi set the change intervals really high.

My memory could be fuzzy here, and then they may have moved it between model years, so this is just something else to put a ? next to. Sorry, that's all I can help with...going in for 20K this weekend.

Default Re: Info Request: 60,000 Mile Service Items

Bosch plugs - F7LTCR.

Fuel filter

IMO do all of the belts or at least timing belt

Check motor mounts

Coolant change is not as crucial as the belts but it won't hurt (esp if you have oil in it).

You can do the tranny and the coolant fluid later.

Something else I'm forgetting..

Default I do remember hearing about the fuel filter....

....it may have been CP or Clark that posted about it. I'll have to do some searching. Given what I remember of the post, it did indeed sound like a PITA to replace....may have to leave that to the pros. Thanks for the feedback.

Default Nick, thanks for the info......

....you think the manual trans fluid needs to be changed? I'll have to consult with my mechanic and get his thoughts. Can't hurt I suppose.

Default It can't hurt..

Some of the guys here (Innovator & Clark) are using Royal Purple Maxgear tranny oil (synthetic). I don't think there is a need for that particular oil unless your have unsmooth shifts in the cold or *occasional* grinds. The factory oil is fine matter fact I would request some TT lube, since it is synthetic and all.

If you don't do it at 60, definatly do it at 90k.

Glad to have helped,

Default By TT lube, are you referring to....

....the trans lube that Audi TT's are running? My A4 has always shifted well...no grinds unlike a lot of the newer A4's that seem to have issues with the 1-2 (or is it 2-3) shift grinding.

Default Yes my bad the Audi TT lube..Hey Andy..

How cold does it get in your area? Has your tranny ever become difficult to shift?

I'm in Ny and it gets bad at times. I can easily grind into second in the cold if I don't rev match and/or double clutch.

Must be some sort of assembly line screw-up during build.

It's a pita but I'm going to have to 'deal' with the dealer in order to rectify this situation.

BTW: have them check for any exaust leaks

Default It gets pretty darn cold here....

....when the temps were down in the single digits last year, I shifted very slowly as I knew everything was frozen up. But the only grinding I've ever had has been due to me slightly missing a shift....doh!

Default Yeah when I shift slow it's not as bad..

It's a toss up for me. If the synthetic oil does not does not fix things then I will know that there is a gearbox problem.
