Default Installed CD Changer in 99.5 A4 in 75 minutes

Thanks to great photos on ChrisWB's site, I installed a Panasonic
CX-DP601 ($250 delivered) with an adaptor cable from Crutchfield ($24
delivered) in the factory slot in 75 minutes. It's true it takes only
four screws to mount the unit, but I had to remove the black plastic
trunk liner in the rear of the trunk (8 screws) and the left
side felt trunk liner (one plastic connector and two clips), and lastly,
the black metal frame that hold the CD changer (5 bolts) to get enough
room to screw in these four simple screws. Also, I connected the ground
wire to the chassis using one of the bolts that holds the CD changer.
The first price I got from a local installer for the stinger-aamp
interface converter was $60. The second quote for a PIE converter was
$40, and the third was from Crutchfield for $20 plus $4 for shipping.
I'm not sure, but I think the Crutchfiled cable is made by PIE. I got
the CD changer from Sound-Creations.com.
It sounds great, of course, but the random function does not work. I can
live with that.

Default One vote for the factory Audi unit...

Bought my CD changer from the parts department the day I took delivery of my car. They gave me a discount, so it was $280 + tax, and I had the thing in my hand. Since it needed no adapter cable, it just plugged right in with no monkeying around, and works perfectly from the get-go. It took me less than 15 minutes on my Avant, but it sounds like it's an easier task on the Avant than the sedan. 3 Screws to remove the CD "cage", install player in the cage with the 4 screws the dealer threw in, plug in the cable, and reinstall the cage.
Convenience, warranty, similar price, can't see the need to mess around with other sources from my view point.
>>>>>Bernie
