Installed my Beru Ultra-X plugs today

I got them yesterday from Mach V and put them in this morning before leaving to work. An easy job, and once you get the engine cover off you can see why there are no upgraded plug wires needed, as has been discused ad-nauseum here. Just make sure you have a 6" extension for your socket/torque wrench and a set of metric allen wrenches. I also confirmed upon removal that I did indeed have the NGK sub-standard plugs. These were a little carbonized after 14,300 miles.
OK, now the driving impressions. I can't say that there was a quantum leap improvement, but I didn't expect one. The idle does seem a little smoother, but Audi/VW 1.8T engines are not electirc motor smooth like Honda 4 cyl. engines anyway (and before the flames, we all know it to be true). Seems to have a little more torque available at lower revs in higher gears, like in city traffic, but not particularly noticeable when hustling along. Couldn't confirm reports of lower oil temps due to mid-30's outside temps here in MI.
All in all I can't say 100% for sure much improvement, but looking at them, I believe they must be at least a little better. I noticed more difference years ago when I put my first set of platinum plugs in the Scirocco I drove in college. Still, we have all spent more money on less effective "improvements". If you are ready to change your plugs anyway, I would consider the Beru Ultra-X to be cheap insurance to ensure a more efficient ignition.

When I sent an email to Beru to confirm which UltraX sparkplug is the right one, they replied that they do not recommend using UltraX on my car (1997 A4 1.8t).
They actually recommended another model of sparkplug they carried (forgot which ones). They didn't elaborate on why they didn't recommend the UltraX...
As for slightly more responsiveness, you would get that if you replace your sparkplug with new ones of same type...
