display is going bad. Missing pixels. It seems like this is a common problem - what to do to fix it? Stealership want $600 for a new cluster, plus $150 to install. What's the better way? I'll probably spring for a vag-com if need be. I'm an EE so I may even build one...

...where would you even begin to fabricate a custom screen? After this was determined, how do you connect it to the existing system. I am not familiar with how the pixel driven screens operate. What drives the display? A computer output signal similar to a monitor display?

They don't do Audi displays but were willing to check one out and attempt to fix but I sold the working cluster I had. I was going to send them mines but I can't afford to have my car down for that long.

VDO Repair

I think I have found a video driver for it but have been unable to locate acheap garmin gps 40 to confirm compatibility. The numbers match for the driver on each of the LCD's (at least online) I don't know if the the LCD is the same or any of the other details about the garmin. That was the only thing that came up when I search for the number off of the LCD.

a ribbon that would work with what is there. The gps that I saw pictures from online looked like I could use that. That is why I was looking in that direction. A complete assembly.
