Default if there is anyway to rebake that connection...or apply some mechanical force..

compressing the chip to the flex cable, thats my best guess at a "fix"

Default Rebaking would probably be the best solution... however I'm not familiar with the manufacturing

process of these cables. I'm guessing it's a complexed process, but it's probably worth looking into...

Default im familliar...i designed a flew cable in my time...

which is why i think rebake plus mechanical press might work. ive suggested it in the past, but no one has tried it.

Default

What are the details of that process? If it's doable, I have my old cluster to test it on.

Default its a flex cable, basically two layers of kapton film sandwiching a copper conductor.

the theory behind the failure is that the driver chip's connections to the flex cable fail.

Default Yeah, I meant what is the baking process? I'm guessing the idea is to rebake so the copper

conductor reforms/reconnects? This website seems like a good starting point to see if repair the cable is possible:

Default well the thought is to do a couple of things...

if mechanical force (clamping) can close the connection, then baking while clamping could stress relieve the joint, increases the chances that the connection would be restored.

or, if you knew the solder temp, perhaps a high temp bake could completely restore the connection (under clamping force).

thats the idea.

btw, that link is pretty good!
