Insufficient Catalyst
A couple of months ago I got that cel code, reset codes and comes back - not erroneous.
Read the archives - indicates o2 sensor or cat.
SO...I switched the o2 sensor connectors in the engine bay (with a little fiddling) to see if the bank changed to determine o2 sensor or cat and the cel went away and stayed away.
Anybody know why? Car passes inspection, runs fine but the code comes back if I switch the connectors back.

Re: Uhh, you need to replace the sensor maybe?
Maybe, but I figured the cel would indicate the other bank when I switched the connectors, i.e. identifying the sensor as the problem instead of the cat.

Re: A scan of the code would've saved you the time/work spent.
I have a simple code reader, it shows the code, which deciphers the bank but can't say whether it's the sensor or the cat. I wasn't aware that there was more info to be derived from the codes. What do you use to scan?
Thanks for your time by the way.

The real deal (software only not their cable, though I need to)
Their software not only tells you the VAG code but which bank the sensor is on and if its pre/post cat.<ul><li><a href="http://www.ross-tech.com">http://www.ross-tech.com</a</li></ul>

I don't think you followed the original post but thanks anyway. Sounds like I need to upgrade to the vagcom software regardless.
