Go to www.reliancedirect.com and get a quote. I am 33, single, with a '99 1.8TQMS and was paying about $1800/yr on my policy. One evening, I decided to try several of those web sites that provide quotes from multiple companies just to see how much better I could do now that a couple of tickets had cleared my record. Quotes came in from the usual companies such as Progressive, State Farm, Geico, and most were similar. Then, one quote came in that was significantly below the others: Reliance Direct. I hadn't heard of them before, so I was skeptical, but my friend who works writing corporate insurance policies tells me the parent company is large and well-known. According to their website blurb, they seem to be lowballing on rates at the moment in order to establish themselves in the internet auto insurance business.
I haven't had to make a claim yet, so I can't say how they'll respond. However, I'm only paying $1100/year now (and would have been under $1000/yr if I didn't still have one ticket remaining when I signed up - which is now also finally off my record!). This is for $100K/$300K level of protection, with $500 deductible on collision and $200 on comprehensive ($0 deductible for glass).
On, I'm in Westchester, NY, but the web site says they write policies in CA, too.
