Default Interesting sound has suddenly (I think..) started happening..

Just off idle, I get a sound which sounds just like the lifters do after an oil change, like they are not pumped up with oil.. It's really quiet though, and it happens on the rev up and the rev down. It can only be heard with the radio off, and the CC fan at lowest setting, or also off.

Anyone had a similar sound?

As a related note, the driver's side head seems to be making extra noises lately.. I tried new oil, but unfortuneately I did not have a new filter, so didn't change that (obviously.)

Default Yikes..

That can be scary. Grab one of those rodded mechanics stethoscopes and see if you can narrow the sound down to a more prominent area..

I wish I could help.

Default What kind of oil are you using and what was your service interval like

The lifters are hydraulic. If you hear them - it's because they are dirty. Either your car was heated up too much and the lifters got tarnish or the oil got too dirty.

If you determine it is you hydraulic lifters - get some oil detergent and run it in you car a month or so - and don't drive it hard.

Default Tensioner maybe, but you did your timing belt already right?

Get a stethoscope and have at your valve covers if you think it is a lifter. One of my timing tensioners was making a tick. It was more pronounced from under the car. Went away when I did my belt and replaced the tensioners. Good Luck I hate those mystery noises.

Default THat's the funny thing about this, it really cant be heard from the engine bay..

other than the general clatter coming from the driver's side bank..

Seems to get louder as the oil warms up.

Default Valvoline 10/40. I change it every 3k, but this winter, it had to endure extremely cold temps..

I wonder if the oil that's in there got hurt somehow..

I am not even due for a change yet.. What kind of detergant have you tried?

Default Yes, but I didn't replace the tensioner, as it is supposedly not know to fail..

The noise can mostly be heard in the cabin, under the hood it just sounds very mechanical, very busy.

It could be just that yesterday was the first time the oil got warm in a very long time, and I happened to hear the noise beause I had the radio off, but who knows..

Default Like I said, mine was noisy don't know if it is a failure issue but it did click/tap.

I couldn't hear it in the cabin though. just outside and especially underneath.
