Interior wood trim

What is the scoop with the wood trim Audi uses to trim the interiors? The wood trim in my 98' Avant 2.8qmsb is lustrous, rich, and shinny and actually look better than the wood trim in my folks 99' 740iL. However, the wood trim in my buddy's 99' 2.8qm looks like cheap dull plastic. It is not sun damage as both cars are garaged with less than 17k on the speedo. Did Audi decide to cheap out in 99'?

There are three different woods available. Your buddy's 99 had the choice of copper polished Vavona, open pore burled Walnut (the dull one you describe) and a polished Walnut. Depending which interior option he choose, that would determine which wood trim his car has.

If anyone has installed a kit from "Exotic Wood Dash", I would appreciate your comments. Satisfied? Disatisfied?
BTW, I know that the real Audi parts can be obtained for about $1300 plus installation, but that's too steep for me.
