I am not that great at searching though. I got a lot of stuff on changing the timing belt but not what I wanted to know.
I wanted to know if you are doing the timing belt and something moves if you just move it back to the proper marking when putting the new belt back on? Thats all there is to it right? Or is everything f'd if that happens?
TIA

shouldnt be because the engine is not running. to be double save use the writeup on the 1.8t from
the tech section and mark the cams or rent the tools for the 2.8.
you could also count the teeth of the belt. when i do my tbelt i am planing on using some small piece of tape and tape the cam in place so it doesnt move (which it shouldnt). i have no clue how easy the cams turn. on the old beetle they run forever when you spin the wheel but that is and old beetle.

good question i dont have done a tbelt yet so give me some weeks and i will let you know
im pretty sure that there is a marking on the camshaft itself and like i said i dont know if the camshaft can spin by itself or if it will need some torque behind it to be moved
