Default It's September, so I'm a little slow, and it's time to start thinking of Snows...

I've checked a bunch of old posts on snow tires and would like a few more comments about these tires...
Michelin Arctic Alpin
Dunlop Wintersport M2
Pirelli Winter210Assymetricos (?)
Dunlop Graspic

I'm going to mount them on stock 16" ('00 1.8TQMS) and am leaning toward the 'cheaper' ones, either the Graspic or Mich. I'm in Colo. but will be moving to northern midwest next year. Comments appreciated. TIA

Default In the same boat.....

I am leaning toward the Dunlop M2. It's hard here (Colorado) because we don't have snow on the ground so much of the winter. Last February though, the one storm we had, my car did not do well on the stock Dunlop tires. If you don't drive in the mountains that much, you might be OK on cheaper tires. Winters in the mid-west however, are a lot worse than they are here.

Default Email me about snows, before you buy. I may have a deal for you.

Default I have Dunlop Wintersport M2s ...

This my first set of winter tires on any car, and I am VERY impressed. I give up little to my summer tires on dry pavement, and they are truely confidence-inspiring in snow. I'd rather be in the Audi than my Cherokee on a snowy day (well, actually, any day)!

Default midwest has constant snow, as apposed to the front range snow-melt-snow-melt thing...

Default I've had the Arctic Alpins and the Pirellis....

the Alpins on my old Accord, and now have the Assymetricos on the A4. The Pirellis are a fine tire; quiet on dry pavement and fine on snow and ice, but I would say that the Alpins are a superior winter tire, especially on the ice and at very cold temperatures. Noticeably stickier, and at least as good in snow.

Either is a good choice, it depends on what you are looking for. The Pirellis are more of a high speed/performance tire, with a higher speed rating (but I'm not sure we should be driving that fast in the winter anyway). I've never read anything negative about the M2's here either, and gather that they are very similar. But if you are looking to maximize safety, especially in the cold, I'd recommend the Alpins.

BTW, we live in Manitoba, and know something about the cold you're moving to.

Default Time to start thinking of Snows: where are you located?

I'm looking for snows as well. Considering the Alpins, Dunlops, Pirellis, Blizzak MZ01s... It would be helpful if folks say where they are when they recommend a tire. Winter driving conditions really vary -- East Coast, Rockies, Canada, the Midwest (I'm in Wisconsin).

I'm in Denver. Lots of sun usually. Snow stays on the ground for a few days at a time.
