What a job! I've done this work before on other cars and I recall it being much simpler. Give me my Alfa GTV6 back! lol.
All kidding aside I'm sure I'll be able to do this much faster next time and of course I'll have a manual then. The biggest amount of time was spent on finding the crank pos sensor and then breaking the sprockets free. I was using a write-up that had plenty of pics and a scanned page from the Bentley manual, but neither one gave a clear picture of where the sensor was. Also, after trying for about an hour (and accidently causing one cam to turn when I had the cam holding tool off) with the first gear puller setup I found a different set of arms that gripped better and I was able to get them broken free so they would turn and I could get the belt on.
Once that was done I turned the engine over and rechecked alignments and had to retighten the tensioner and all was good. When I pulled the water pump, which was making quite some noise and was the reason I even did this work now, it was quite stiff to turn. Glad I did this and didn't run into the problem of having to do valves and other work.
Thanks to Sean at Rtuning for use of his tools.

The water pump can really ruin your day. If it seizes up, not only do you get no cooling but the cam drive belt starts disintegrating against the pump pully and eventually - bent valves! I had the "no cooling" problem which resulted in having to replace both head gaskets, but fortunately caught it before the belt shredded completely!
