Default Just finished installing my portable MiniDisc player (x-post from Audio forum)...

I've been meaning to do this project for a long time, but finally got around to it this weekend. I have a Panasonic SJ-MR200 portable MiniDisc player/recorder that fits really well in the ashtray of my A4. Here is a little info on how I did it:

First, I hacked into the analog line-ins coming from my CD changer:

This allowed me to install an input selector switch (temporarily located under the dash on the passenger's side until I find a better place) to switch between the CD changer and the MD unit. I just soldered on some RCA cables and ran them to the switch.

Next, I got out my dremel tool; I had to remove a small amount of plastic at the back of the ashtray to feed in the power and remote LCD unit. I didn't take any pictures of that but if anyone wants them, just let me know. I ran power from near the fusebox, ran the wired LCD remote to the top of the console area, and that's it!

Here is a picture of the center console...you can see the LCD unit at the top and the main MD player in the ashtray:

Here's a closeup of the LCD display:

Does the display on the head unit get freaky when you play the MD player?

No...it just thinks it's playing a CD. The only time the MD audio cuts out is during CD changes.

Default Question...

For any of us without the CD Changer, is there anyway to 'trick' the head unit into thinking there is a CD Chagner being used so an analog source can be inserted?

Yes, check the Audio forum or ask about it there. I think some people have successfully used it.
