Job finished without a hitch. It is a good solution even if the cup holder still isn't quite big enough to hold my Slurpees...
The cup holder hangs on the passenger side of the console and just screws into the plastic that comes down over the carpeting. The cupholder is constructed so that it has two fingers that reach up and behind the plastic of the console. The screws that come with the holder then screw in from the front of the cup holder, through the plastic skirt and into the fingers. There is no deep drilling or screwing into the steel floor as some have described/pondered on this forum. In fact, the plastic of the console is so soft, I was able to predrill the screw hole just by turning the drill bit with my fingers!
There is just the perfect amount of space to locate the cup holder without interfering with the seat or glove-box movement. Although my console is blue, I still went with the standard black cupholder since all controls and devices in my ecru/blue interior are black. The cupholder looks like it came with the car. It is solid and capable - I am happy.
Gordon Martin
98.5 2.8QMS (Santorin Blue)
I first saw it on donp's Audi Zone page back in January. (see link for pics)
Mine is in pretty much the same location, but may not be quite as noticeable since the blue/black interior in that area makes it quite dark.
Oh... why don't I provide the rest of the little details:
As per the A4.org FAQ, the part number for the black cup holder was:
3A1-862-531-01C
The price from my friendly neighbourhood VW dealer was $50.35 CDN + $2.00 for screws + taxes.
Tootles,
Gordon Martin
98.5 2.8QMS (Santorin Blue)

donp's Audi Zone page
