Me: Can you please get me the torque specs on the two bolts that hold this shock in place?
Parts Guy: I'm sorry, I don't have that information available. Service should have it though...let's go ask them. Hey Bob, can you please get this gentleman the torque specs for the bolts on this set of rear shocks.
Service Advisor: ::blank look:: Uhhh, I don't think we have that information.
Me: ::Staring at the Service Advisor::
Service Advisor: Let me go check.
He runs into the shop to consult a tech. A few minutes later he comes back.
Service Advisor: 60 ft-lbs!
Me: Umm, okay, what about the top nut.
Service Advisor: Uhh, it's the same for both of them.
Me: No, that can't be...60 ft-lbs is too high for the top nut.
Servisor Advisor: Well, that's what our techs use. They have torque sticks that are preset to 40 ft-lbs, and we use that on all the cars.
Me: (first it's 60, then it's 40...yeah, okay) ::sigh:: Thank you!
No, it wasn't an Audi dealer...but here is a hint...Quality is Job 1!

The fronts still work, but they need to be replaced when funds allow. The rears are done and need to be replaced now. The tools were more so I could do the work on the S myself, rather than forking out $400 a hit. I've layed out about $600 for tools, but hopefully they will come in handy when working on the front suspension of the Mustang (later this summer), and down the road, my father's car will probably need shocks as well...he's got 90K on the clock on his car.
If I had just bought the tools right from the start, and done all the suspension work myself, they would have paid for themselves several times over. *sigh* Live and learn.

Read this!

I've always tinkered with my cars...the hesitation with the suspension work is that good spring compressors aren't cheap. Well, that part is now behind me...so I don't have an excuse anymore.
