My buddy has (and I have driven) the previous generation 500E ('92 or '93; ~340bhp). Hand built by Porsche and that thing is fast. 140 mph no problem. A real sleeper, too. Only those in the know recognize the lowered stance and bulged fenders. MB does build and design performance cars.

Hell yes it's fast! 0-60 in 4.5. IIRC it has 476hp

Stepfather had a 996, but now has an E430 Sport. Very nice.
