Thank you for sharing with us your concern. We regret that we were not able to respond to these concerns more quickly except to suggest that each owner visit an authorized Audi dealer so that the malfunctioning ignition coil can be replaced free of charge.
You will appreciate that it takes time to understand the nature and scope of the failure mode of any component in the vehicle, including the ignition coil, and to effectuate changes, in particular if the component is manufactured by an outside supplier, as is the case in this instance.
We have communicated the issue to our supplier who just completed its investigation and has decided to take steps to optimize the manufacture of the ignition coil so that it is more robust in withstanding the forces that can cause it to fail prematurely. Among the forces that could lead to premature malfunction is the method employed in installing the coil into the engine. This may explain that while a few coils have malfunctioned, other coils in the same vehicle have remained unaffected. You should note that a vehicle remains operational even if one coil in a 4 cylinder engine and two coils in a 6 cylinder engine should have malfunctioned, so that the vehicle can be driven to the nearest repair shop. In addition to making the coils more robust, the supplier has also implemented a 100% quality inspection program, which is expected to ensure that coils delivered to Audi will uniformly meet Audi's product quality specifications.
We apologize for the difficulties you and other owners have had with your Audi and want to make sure that these difficulties do not reoccur. Thank you for your patience in allowing us to identify the nature of the performance deficiency and to correct it as expeditiously as possible. While the improved parts remain in relatively short supply, we are trying very hard to attend to the most urgent situations first. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 1-800-822-2834, option 3.
Thank you for driving one of our automobiles.
We hope that information will be useful in understanding the current situation; if you do need further assistance, please call the number mentioned above.
Again, thank you for your patience and your concerned interest in this matter.

That won't prove sh&t. It's one thing if they identified the root cause. They are just being reactive and not proactive. They need some serious TQM on the mfg process of these coil packs.

and that may take a while. A huge shortage of those babies at the moment.
I've heard other comments that the recall won't happen until Spring of next year.
I wonder if the recall will also cover earlier model A4s, or just the B6.

but AoA has been known to mess it up in the past. A few years ago, there was fuel sending unit recall which only applied to A6 (because the A6 guys generated enough publicity), even though the same fuel sending units were also used on the A4. Go figure.
