Just had my steering rack replaced...I think the price was pretty reasonable...input?

Default Just had my steering rack replaced...I think the price was pretty reasonable...input?
So I took my car in because I thought it just had a small leak somewhere in the power steering system. Turned out to be the rack. My mechanic got a rebuilt rack for $574.33, $15.75 for fluid, $5.00 for solvent. He obviously flushed and refilled the system as well. Labor cost was $387.00 so I figure at about $85 an hour, it took about 4.5 hours. Sound like I got an ok deal? Just curious.

Default Sounds pretty good
Note - my A4 had a leak at the tubing on the bottom of the reservoir - You might want to check that out and be sure it is not leaking

Default Don't know what kind of condition your car is in, but personally, if my wifes 01 1.8t...
cost $1000 to get fixed (which is in the shop right now), it's going to be traded. But the price was very good for a non DIY job. The dealer would have totally violated you.

Default other than the rack being about ~$175 more than what I spent on mine...
can't argue w/ the additional costs. I did it all myself to save from that labor bill, though.

I know how it its. I held onto my B5 to the bitter end. Loved that car. Got totaled.
