Default just installed a panasonic cd changer (works great) and have some questions

When I removed the toolbox/cd changer mount I noticed what looked to be a spilled milkshake on the trunk floor metal directly under the toolbox/cd changer mount and when I touched this mess it felt like wax. Anyone else notice this substance (its not evenly distributed) and if so what is it and what good is it?

Also on the bottom of the toolbox/cd changer mount are 5 or 6 wires connected to a electronic box, what's this all about?

Also for anyone else considering adding a changer it is a very easy install to do yourself. I used the Tech article for the 2000 S4 and everything went very easy. I have a 2001 non-Bose Symphony and I bought the Panasonic CXDP610 6 disk changer from LogJam Electronics using Yahoo shopping for $200.95 including shipping and the adaptor from Crutchfield AUPAN98 for $24.90 including shipping. Its a great addition for under $226. Also for what its worth, the screws to mount the changer to the mount (M5X7) are included with the changer (I went out and bought some before the changer arrived)

Buy the OEM changer (no adapter needed) for $230 at AutoToys
